Ø Task 1
Talk about the advantages and disadvantages of communicating and socializing through apps on smartphones. Please explain your answer with details and examples.
Compared with talking in person, communicating over the smartphone has a lot of advantages and disadvantages.
Obviously the biggest advantage is that you can talk anywhere, anytime when you’re using a smartphone. For example, last weekend my friends and I met at the mall, but everyone arrived at different times and different places. However, because we use our smartphones, that’s no problem at all. We can just communicate and find a place to meet.
On the other hand, communicating on smartphones has disadvantages. Because you’re not talking to a person using your voice and seeing someone’s face, it’s very easy to misunderstand what people are saying. Just yesterday, my friend got really mad at me because I made a joke and they didn’t realize it was a joke.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
It is better for the students to learn by watching videos of experiments instead of doing the experiments by themselves.
Please explain why with details and examples.
I very strongly disagree with the statement. I think students need to learn to do things by themselves.
First off, when we do an experiment on our own, it helps us to learn it better. I still remember a chemistry experiment about volcanoes that we did in class, I think, three years ago. However, I’ve watched a lot of videos since then and forgot most of them, I’m sure.
On top of that, we often learn all kinds of extra skills when we do experiments in class. For example, last week in my history class, we did an experiment about statistics. But to get that done, I had to work with four other students and we learned a lot of group management and social skills as we did the experiment. That’s a really important lesson.
